Bobbin Heater
The Bobbin Heater is the workhorse of industrial liquid and air heating. Constructed from high-temperature refractory insulators (steatite), these heaters feature a robust design where resistance wires (NiCr or FeCrAl) are supported by ceramic blocks to ensure uniform heat distribution.
In contrast to direct immersion heaters that sit exposed in the liquid, Bobbin Heaters are protected inside a radiant tube or pocket. This unique “indirect” heating method means the element never touches the fluid directly. Consequently, you get a heater that is safe, durable, and incredibly easy to service without halting your entire production line.
Key Features of Bobbin Heaters
- High-Quality Materials: Built using premium NiCr 80/20 or FeCrAl (Kanthal) wires for consistent performance and longevity.
- Temperature Range: Capable of operating efficiently at temperatures up to 650°C.
- Wide Size Range: Standard bobbin diameters available from 25mm to 93mm, with custom lengths to fit any tank or oven depth.
- Robust Insulation: Utilizes high-temperature Steatite insulators to prevent electrical leakage and short circuits.
- Protective Sheathing: Can be paired with Stainless Steel, Incoloy, or Cast Alloy tubes to resist corrosion from harsh chemicals or oils.
- Custom Power: Scalable power options up to 25kW with customizable voltage and watt density.
Advantages of Bobbin Heaters
- Replace Without Draining: This is the #1 advantage. Because the heater sits inside a protection tube, you can remove and replace the heating element without draining the tank. This saves hours of downtime and prevents liquid waste.
- Large Surface Area: The open-coil design exposes a large surface area of wire to the air inside the tube. As a result, heat transfer is highly efficient, allowing for faster heating of liquids and semi-solids.
- Versatile Mounting: While typically designed for horizontal installation, we can custom-engineer units for vertical mounting to suit specific tank geometries.
- Safe for Sensitive Fluids: Indirect heating prevents the element from burning sensitive materials like bitumen, wax, or oil, reducing carbon buildup on the sheath.
Uses & Applications of Bobbin Heaters
- Industrial Tanks & Baths: Maintaining temperature for water, oil, and chemical cleaning solutions.
- Hot Air Ovens & Dryers: providing clean, radiated heat for drying processes.
- Bitumen & Wax Heating: Ideal for heating semi-solid materials where direct contact would damage the element or the product.
- Chemical Processing: Heating corrosive solutions safely through compatible protection tubes (SS or Titanium).
- Boilers & Oil Heaters: Essential for pre-heating fuel oils and maintaining viscosity in storage tanks.
